Whole Home Remodeling in the DC Metro Area

By Managed Renovations

Ready to Reimagine Your Whole Home?

A whole-home remodel is the biggest project most homeowners ever take on, and the one that rewards good planning the most.

It's also the kind of work where trust matters more than anything, because you're handing over your home for months, not weeks. That's exactly what Managed Renovations is built for.

We pull the entire house into one cohesive vision, coordinating every room, every trade, and every detail, personally running the project start to finish. The result is a home that feels considered and connected, instead of a collection of rooms that were each updated in a different decade.

Remodel or Move? Why So Many Neighbors Choose to Stay

At some point, most homeowners ask the same question: do we fix this house, or do we go find another one?

In places like Chevy Chase and Bethesda, the math often favors staying. You'd be trading a home you love, in a location you can't replace, for higher prices, a bidding war, and the cost and stress of moving, only to likely renovate the next place anyway.

A whole-home remodel lets you keep the address, the schools, and the walk to your favorite spots, while finally getting the layout and finishes you actually want.

We're happy to talk it through honestly, even if the right answer for you turns out to be moving.

Frequently Asked Questions About Whole Home Remodeling in the DC Metro Area

How much does a whole-home remodel cost in the DC area?expand_more

Whole-home remodels vary widely based on size and scope, and in our market, they typically start in the low six figures and climb to $400,000 or above for larger homes or full structural work.

Older homes and premium finishes push the number higher. Our Remodeling Cost Guide breaks down the ranges, and we'll give you a clear, honest estimate before any work begins.

How long does a whole-home remodel take?expand_more
Construction on a whole-home project usually runs sixteen to twenty-plus weeks, and the full timeline often lands between six months and a year once design and permitting are included. Historic review, zoning, or HOA approvals can add time on the front end, so we build a realistic schedule with you from the start.
Can I live in my home during a whole-home remodel?expand_more
Sometimes, depending on the scope. Phased interior work often lets you stay, while major structural changes or upper-level additions usually call for a temporary move, and we'll help you figure out which applies to your project early on.
Do older homes cost more to remodel?expand_more
Often, yes. Many homes here were built before modern wiring, plumbing, and insulation standards, so opening the walls can reveal surprises, which is why we plan for a contingency and lean on experience with older DC-area homes to limit the shocks.
Do you handle the design and architectural plans?expand_more
When a full remodel needs architectural plans, we connect you with our trusted independent architect, who works with you directly. You're not paying a contractor's markup on design, and the plans are done by someone who knows exactly how we build.

Our Process

1 | Consultation
Everything starts with a conversation, usually right in your home. Michael walks the space with you, listens to what you're hoping to change, and gets a real feel for how you live. It's also where we make sure we're the right fit for each other, because the best projects are built on mutual trust. You'll leave that first meeting with clarity, not a hard sell.
2 | Design & Planning
Once we understand your goals, we map out the scope, budget, and direction together. When your project needs architectural plans, we connect you with our trusted independent architect, who works with you directly. You stay in control of the selections and the big decisions at every step. The result is a plan that fits your home, your taste, and your budget before a single wall comes down.
3 | Construction
This is where the transformation happens, and where Michael stays personally involved. We schedule, manage, and inspect the work ourselves, coordinating vetted licensed subcontractors and keeping you in the loop the whole way through. You'll always know what's happening and what's coming next. When we're done, it should feel less like a renovation and more like the home you always pictured.

What Our Clients Think

"When doing a big renovation in a 100+ year old house, surprises happen. Working with Michael and Natalie always brought us a level of calm and peace that the surprises would be dealt with, that the quality would be first rate, and that there was always an eye towards finding the best value in the solution."

Chuck W.
Whole Home Remodel

"Michael Shannon, Natalie, and all of the crew are consummate professionals: considerate, trustworthy, very skilled, kind, highly communicative, and timely. helpful, and worth every penny, which was very reasonable too. They redid my small powder room, and I trusted them to finish the job while out of town. When I returned, it was completed and looked even better than I had imagined. Every detail was skillfully executed, and their suggestions were on point too. I am very pleased with the entire experience and recommend them as an outstanding company with the best reputation. I will definitely use them again if I can get on their schedule!!"

Piper M.
Bathroom Remodel

"Michael and team did a superb renovation job. The work was completed under tight timelines and Michael is an expert in setting clear and realistic expectations and delivering on them. All the team were highly responsive. We feel that we got what we wanted whereas with most contractors you barely get what you pay for. The quality of the work was consistently high. An added bonus is that they were polite, respectful, and enjoyable to work with."

Benjamin W.
Remodel

"Michael and Managed Renovations helped us with renovating a new house in Colonial Village. The work included a new kitchen, new master bath and closet, and various upgrades throughout the house. Michael cared that the work would be done right — probably even more than we did! Michael consistently showed an attention to detail that went far beyond any of the other contractors we've worked with before. As a result of Michael's suggestions, we've got significantly more space than we expected. Michael's creativity was an added bonus."
