Managed Renovations is a home remodeling company built on a simple idea: the person you trust with your home should be genuinely involved in the process.
We remodel kitchens, bathrooms, additions, and whole homes across Chevy Chase, Bethesda, and Northwest DC, with a hands-on approach that's become all too rare in this business. Our clients tend to be people who love where they live and want to make it even better, not leave it.
We take on a deliberate number of projects, so each one gets real attention. And we're proud that so much of our work comes from referrals from prior clients and new projects from repeat clients who've trusted us with more than one project in their home or homes!

Meet Michael Shannon, Founder
Michael Shannon didn't take the usual path into construction. He spent 20 years in technology before a single renovation changed everything. In 2000, stepping back from tech, he and his wife bought an 1895 townhouse in DC's Dupont Circle and set out to restore it, gutting the home and adding a three-story rear addition.
He'd planned to hire it out. But with time on his hands, he decided to general contract the project himself, learning the trade on the job from a seasoned GC. Nine months later the townhouse was finished, and he was hooked. When their second child was on the way in 2004, the family moved to Chevy Chase, where he gutted and expanded their new home too.
He'd found he was good at building, and that he genuinely loved the transformation. So he made it official. After a year of project management for another GC, Michael launched his own firm: Managed Renovations.
That experience still shapes how the business works, giving us a different perspective than most contractors and the stability to be selective. Clients describe Michael as knowledgeable, involved, and easy to trust, and he treats the first meeting as a two-way interview, because the best projects start with the right fit. He also welcomes scrutiny, encouraging every prospective client to call past references and ask about the communication, the process, and the results.

Managed Renovations focuses on the DC suburbs and Northwest Washington, the neighborhoods we know inside and out. Staying in a tight, familiar service area means we understand the local housing stock, the permitting quirks, and what it takes to restore a century-old home as confidently as we remodel a modern one. That focus is a big part of how we keep the quality high and the surprises low.
